Post hardcore outfit Quiet Zoo hails from the American rustbelt city of Cleveland, Ohio. With a focus on the struggles of the human experience and emotional catharsis, Quiet Zoo blends aspects of post-rock, shoegaze, hardcore, and metalcore to create a unique sonic experience that ebbs and flows between jagged fury and lush serenity. lll
The band formed in early 2019, releasing a self-titled EP three years later following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, the band released a followup EP titled "Liminal", and in 2025 sees the release of their first full-length record "The Mire".
The Mire is a result of years of writing, member changes, and the rejoining of original bassist and now vocalist/lyricist Austin Wade. The album explores the many forms that grief takes on, introspections of said grief, and reluctant hopefulness for healing and progressing. The themes were born of guitarist and vocalist Zach Hurst and Austin's own separate traumatic experiences and the processing of those experiences. It is both a sort of musical journal and a retelling of horrific events from the inside. The album sheds light on themes of new duality and new beginnings, and is sure to resonate with listeners.
